They needed a site that would highlight their work and give them a web presence for their corporate headquarters. We helped them set up Google places pages for each of their locations.

Brazos Valley Co-op

Brazos Valley Co-op is a home school co-op in Waco, TX. Their 10+ year old website needed a facelift.

We were able to incorporate all the content from their old site in a way that makes it easy for parents to search for classes and find all the information they need. Using WordPress as a CMS was the best solution. A committee member can now update the website easily from any computer. No one has to have special software.

Ron and Diane Varley wanted a website that would showcase their unique photos. In their travels they have taken some wonderful photos, around the world and right here in Texas. I had a hard time choosing a favorite photo.

They wanted to be able to update the site themselves so WordPress is the perfect solution for this website. We also found the perfect plugin that would display their photos with the different aspect ratios in which they were taken. Visitors to the site are able to view the photos several different ways and even rate their favorites.

iPad and iPhone tip: Add More Google Calendars to iPad/iPhone Calendar

I had a very hard time figuring out how to add other calendars to my iPad calendar that I had added to my Google account. The main calendar easily showed up when added the email account. But I had two other calendars attached to my Google account that I wanted to view. After quite a lot of searching I found this article. http://gigaom.com/apple/ipad-quick-tip-enabling-multiple-google-calendars/. It was exactly what I needed. But it was almost too much information.

You just need to log in to the Google account in question, then go to this link. http://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect. Then you just check the accounts you want to see on your iPhone or iPad. Click Save and you are done. It’s that easy.

iPad tip: More Hidden Keys

The iPad keyboard is not just your average keyboard. Because it is touch-sensitive, this unassuming keyboard can actually hold wonders never imagined! A flick of the finger is all it takes to transform an ordinary key into something completely different!

Flick the ?/. key and you get “.

Now Press the .?123 Button to get to the number keyboard:

Press and hold the ” key you get a choice of several types of quotes and double arrow keys.

Press and hold the period key and get the option for an ellipsis…

Press and hold the question mark (?) to get an upside down question mark.

Press and hold the exclamation point (!) to get an upside down exclamation point.

One of my favorites is the dash key (-). Press and hold it and you get the option for a short dash (n dash) or a long dash (m dash) or a bullet or dot (•). The nice thing about the bullet • is • that • you • can • put • it • in • the • middle • of • a • sentence • instead • of • a • dash. It is actually easier to use this dot on the iPad keyboard than it is to add a dot on a regular keyboard. Normally you would have to insert a symbol if you wanted to use it in the middle of a sentence. In case you didn’t know, the n-dash is called that because it is the width of the “n” and the m-dash is the width of the “m”. Just an extra tidbit of trivia for you today.

Hold the $ and you get your choice of currency symbols. Then do what I did and press and hold all the keys on the keyboard to see what what other “hidden” keys you can find.

iPad tips: CAPS LOCK

IT IS SO EASY TO DO CAPS LOCK ON THE IPAD.

JUST DOUBLE TAP THE SHIFT ARROW AND THE CAPS LOCK WILL STAY ON UNTIL YOU TAP IT AGAIN.

YOU CAN TELL THAT THE CAPS LOCK IS ON BECAUSE THE SHIFT ARROW IS BLUE.

iPad tip: Diacritical Marks – Accents, etc.

When typing words in languages other than English on your iPad 2 you often need to add diacritical marks. These are the marks that appear over vowels and a few of the consonant keys.

I have an accent mark in my name. I have always just typed ‘Renee’. I don’t really worry about whether the accent mark it there or not. But with the iPad 2 I can easily add the accent mark. In fact I have added it to my email signature on my iPad. Now I can type Renée.

With the keyboard open all you have to do it tap and hold on a vowel or the N, Y, L, or S keys to see the options you have for each key. Then slide your finger up to the type of mark you want.
